Who We Are

Wise County Department of Social Services investigates concerns that an elderly person (age 60 plus) or an incapacitated adult (over age 18) is being abused, neglected (including self-neglect) or exploited.  Adult or elder abuse may be reported weekdays during agency operating hours directly to the local department of social services.



A toll-free state hotline (24 hours a day, seven days a week) is also available to report concerns in Virginia: 1-888-83ADULT, OR 1-888-832-3858.



Anonymous reports are accepted. Incapacitated or elderly adults who are abused, neglected, or exploited often get help only because someone was concerned enough to make a report of concern on the adult's behalf.

Intake Process
To report suspected adult abuse, neglect or exploitation, call the Department of Social Services during regular business hours. After business hours, call the toll free hotline number 1-888-832-3858. In emergency situations, call 911.
