Event Description

Caregivers, discover how your loved one may benefit from a trauma-informed approach.

About the Event

We know your caregiving journey can be challenging in all kinds of ways. That’s why AARP Virginia and Insight Memory Care Center are delighted to invite you to our Care Partner Class: Trauma-Informed Care and Dementia.

Trauma-informed practice in dementia care takes into account the possibility that individuals living with dementia may have experienced traumatic events in their lives. More than 70 percent of older people have experienced a psychologically traumatic event. The onset of dementia can interact with trauma-related needs in important ways.

A trauma-informed response from staff can promote staff and participant safety, reduce the risk of re-traumatization and minimize adverse events. Join us to learn more from a representative of Fairfax County’s Trauma-Informed Community Network

This class, which is not an AARP event, will be held in person in Fairfax, Virginia, and online for virtual viewers, who will be able to ask questions via the chat feature.

How to Join

You will be able to select virtual or in-person attendance when you register here with the Insight Memory Care Center and will receive an email with a Zoom link before class. Any information you provide on the host organization’s platform will be governed by its privacy policies.

Contact Insight Memory Care Center at educate@insightmcc.org or AARP Virginia at aarpva@aarp.org for more information about this event.
