Who We Are

The Public Housing Program is a federally funded program that provides decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.  Call for eligibility requirements and availability of units. All public housing residents have two options in regards to rent:

  • Income-based rent, based on 30% of the adjusted household income, or;
  • Flat rent, based on market comparable rents for the location and property.

Four public housing communities are:  North Phoebus Townhouses, Patterson Crossing, Kings Arms and Langley Village.

Section 8. housing. Program provides subsidized housing for the disabled or elderly and low income residents of the City of Hampton. The Housing office is located at 1 South Armistead Avenue. Eligible families seek rental housing on the open market, paying up to 30% of their adjusted income for rent and utilities. The rent difference is paid to landlords through the Authority by a HUD subsidy.

Additional services include the Single Family Homeownership Program, homebuyer assistance, public housing, housing for homeless, and congregate housing.
